Friday, 11/23 7-9 pm City of Alexandria’s Tree Lighting Ceremony
Historic Market Square in Old Town, 301 King Street. Come out Rain or shine and enjoy musical entertainment, a community sing along, caroling and a visit from Jolly Old Saint Nick!
11/25 – 1/6/13 9 am – 4pm George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate
From special Candlelight Tours, to a gingerbread Mount Vernon, to historical chocolate-making demonstrations, Mount Vernon is a Christmas lover’s delight with its themed decorations and 18-th century dancing.
11/30 – 12/1 11 am Scottish Walk Weekend
One of Alexandria’s most popular traditions, the highlight of this weekend holiday celebration features hundreds of Scottish clansmen with their bagpipes gathering for the Scottish Walk Parade at 11 am in Old Town. There is also a hour of historic homes and a Christmas Marketplace and Cafe.
Dozens upon dozens of festively decorated pleasure boats light up the sky and delight attendees of all agents as they motor past on the Potomac River. The parade beings at Alexandria’s waterfront and culimnates at Washington Channel at Water Street off Maine Avenue in DC. Held Rain, Snow or Shine!
It’s easy to get to and around Old Town with the city’s DASH About Free bus shuttle, which runs every 15 minutes on the weekend. Fridays, from 7pm – midnight; Saturdays, 10 am – midnight; Sundays, 11 am – 10 pm. You cannot miss the colorfully painted DASH About buses as they travel from the King Street Metro to the Ramsey House Visitors Center, located at 221 King Street or as they return to the metro with stops all along the way.
Out of Town Visitors – Stop in at the Visitors Center and pick up your pass for free parking at 2 hour meters.
