Looking to kick off the shopping season that retail merchants hope put them in the black for the year, the day after Thanksgiving has traditionally been known as “Black Friday,” a day for big crowds and big discounts.
And the merchants in Old Town Alexandria are no exception!
Starting at 6 a.m., parking will be free all day at a number of garages and lots:
- Market Square Garage 108 N Fairfax Street
- Courthouse Square Garage 111 S Pitt Street
- Thompson’s Alley Garage 10 Thompson’s Alley
- North Union St Garage 220 North Union Street
- South Henry Street Lot 112 S Henry S
- Cameron/St Asaph St Lot, 210 North St Asaph St
It’s true what they say – the early bird really does get the worm! Many of Old Town’s independently owned shops are offering special discounts – and the earlier you shop, the more you save. Discounts start at 30% between the hours of 6 am and 8 am, 20% from 8 to 10 am and 10% starting at 10 am. And there will be additional sales and special promotions throughout the day.
And since you’ll be in Old Town Alexandria for the day, anyway, why not grab a bite to eat and hang around for that evening’s Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony, which starts at 7 pm on the Historic Market Square at 301 King Street.
Rain, shine, or snow – you will enjoy a performance from Santa’s Frosty Follies, a community sing along, caroling and a visit from Jolly Old Saint Nick!
There is no better way to kick off the Christmas season! Free parking, free Trolley, big sales and discounts, variety of pubs, restaurants and bistros, plus Santa! It’s all here in Old Town Alexandria.
